Wheelman Confirmed Release Date

Midway have confirmed that Wheelman will be available on the 20th February.

Chicago - November 19, 2008 - Midway Games Inc. (NYSE: MWY), a leading interactive entertainment software publisher and developer, today announced a planned global ship date of February 16, 2009, for Wheelman, the upcoming open-world driving game starring action-film megastar Vin Diesel as an expert driver for hire. Set in picturesque Barcelona, the game is scheduled to be available in stores everywhere by February 20, 2009, for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and personal computers.

Co-produced by Vin Diesel and created in close partnership with Diesel’s video game production company Tigon Studios, Wheelman is being developed by Midway Studios - Newcastle Ltd., a Midway internal studio that has assembled an international world-class team fusing proven industry veterans with a AAA track record and future emerging talent focused on creating high quality, best-in-breed gaming experiences.

“We’re designing Wheelman to play like a Hollywood blockbuster,” said Vin Diesel, Wheelman star and executive producer, Tigon Studios. “Playing this game will be just like taking control of the greatest car chases from feature films, except this time you’re in the driver’s seat.”

Midway is working closely with Vin Diesel and Tigon Studios to create an all-new property that is expected to eventually lead to a feature film, with a script that is already in development.

Vehicle Melee allows gamers to sideswipe pursuing enemies with a simple flick of the joystick Wheelman’s devastating “slam-n-ram” maneuvers can be carried out in all directions, just like you’d see in a Hollywood-style car chase.

The Future Of Gaming Has Arrived?

Visual that is, during a recent Gran Turismo event they not only showed GT in the highest resolution possible, they went beyond.

During the event Polyphony Digital held a time trial competition using Sony’s new digital cinema projector the SRX-S110 (220 inch). They had the highest resolution showing 1920 x 1080 pixels, they then ramped it up to 3840 x 2160 pixels. They manage to do this by connecting 4 PS3’s together each producing a quarter of the screen.

You would think that showing it off at the Ultra HD would be enough but they then revamped the Frame rate from 60fps to 240fps.

They manage to do this in the same way as before. The image below explains how they manage to do it:

It is as though you are following a real world event happening right in front of your face with your own eyes. Any and all flickering in the movement of the vehicle, in the smoke from the tires, etc. are completely gone, and you are almost tricked into believing you are watching something in real life. The guests at the event were baffled by the quality of the image, and stared in amazement at the screen.

For all you MGS fans who wanted an expansion, you’ll be pleased to now that the MEME expansion will be available on the 25th November.

Entitled MEME EXPANSION, the download adds new characters and gameplay elements to Hideo Kojima’s hugely popular online epic.

The MEME EXPANSION unveils two new special characters, which are playable for the first time. Liquid Ocelot enters the fray with the ability to manipulate the Sons of the Patriots’ lock system using his Guns of the Patriots skills, and can also deactivate the weaponry of a targeted for within Metal Gear Online’s multi-player modes. Similarly, Mei Ling comes into play with three unique attributes, including the Trench Mortar weapon, Soliton Sonar capabilities, and the means to transfix enemies.

Three new maps have also been created, with the rough, uneven industrial elements of Silo Sunset, the dense foliage of Forest Firefight and a snow-blown deserted factory called Winter Warehouse available for the first time.

The download also implements a number of new rules, which are also now available without the MEME EXPANSION update. A new ‘No Headshot’ setting allows players to attribute the same level of damage when shot in the head to that of a regular body shot.

‘Stealth Death Match’ allows users to compete with the stealth elements switched on automatically; while the ‘Interval’ setting allows used to practice and chat with each other within the battlefield, without their ranking or records being adversely affected.

An official Tournament lobby has also been created to pit players in battle situations where points are up for grabs and can be spent on the customisation of a character or on new gear. Likewise, a series of familiar humorous elements can also be used within the customise field, including the Crocodile Cap made famous in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the Ghillie Suite camo from the same game, and an afro hair style.

Metal Gear Online fans will be able to pre-purchase the MEME EXPANSION elements for 7,99 Euro from November 18th, with a bundle containing both the new elements and the previous GENE EXPANSION update also available at the same date for 12,99 Euro. Users can access the new additions of the MEME EXPANSION after the official start on November 25th.

Fifa 09 Patch

A patch is set to be released next week to fix some issues hurting Fifa 09.

The patch will be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, full paych list below:

- Fixed side-stepping issue on lofted through balls
Fixing the issue where a player sidesteps when trying to control a lofted through ball instead of running straight onto it and controlling it, was a top priority for the EAC development team. We’re happy to say that the team at EAC has been able to fix this problem and it will be included in the game update.

- Improved advantage rule: fixed goals being called back for free kicks
There was a problem in the advantage rule whereby the referee would call back a goal if it was scored when the advantage was being played. Instead the referee would give a FK or a PK to the fouled player. This issue has been resolved in the game update. Goals that are going in when a foul is committed will count when they score.

- Improved number assigning in Manager Mode
When signing a player in Manager Mode the player now makes a more sensible decision, based on this position, on which number he would like, whereas previously he would always take the number 2.

- Allowed up to 8 user-controlled teams in Tournament Mode
After installing the game update it will be possible to play in Tournament Mode with up to 8 user-controlled teams. This gives the option to host bigger events with your friends to compete in offline-tournaments. Have fun!

- Removed ability to bring custom teams into Online ranked matches
Everybody has the option to transfer players in his favorite team and create his own custom dream team. This is an option we want to offer everybody to enjoy the feeling of creating own teams and play matches online or offline. When it comes to ranked competitive online matches we think only real teams should compete against each other to keep everybody’s chances even. So with the update it is no longer possible to enter a ranked match with a custom created team. You will still be able to upload your customized team online as in customized starting line-up with the existing players of that team’s roster

- Fixed Stadium 23.Maj lag issue
We fixed a major frame rate issue in 23.Maj stadium.

- Fixed join issue in Online Team Play Lobbies
A game hang issue occurred during search for available OTP game sections within the lobby rooms has been resolved.

Call Of Duty World At War Review

Is this just a re-hash of Modern Warfare or is this a fresh new Call Of Duty?

After the success of Call of Duty 4, Treyach had a lot to live up to and when they announced they were going back to WWII there was a huge question of why?. Thankfully though this has not ruined a fantastic franchise and has even left us wanting more games set back in WWII.

When you start CODWW you will notice a lot of deja vu, the menu and sub-menus haven’t been drastically redesigned and you’ll like the familiarities you will experience (if it’s not broke why fix it). The story of CODWW center’s around the latter stages of WWII with you fighting in Asia and Europe taking out anyone who get’s in your path.

As in COD4 you get to play as two characters for two different armies the US and Russian forces. For the US army you play as Private Miller, who has been captured by the Japanese army. You are just about to be executed when you are saved by Corporal Roebuck and his men and now that you are saved, it see’s you join up with the unit and take out various Japanese targets so you can go home and go to your families.

The second character you play as is Private Dimitri Petrenko off the Soviet army, he also isn’t having a good day with his unit wiped out in Stalingrad he must play dead or risk being killed. You soon join up with Sergeant Reznov and your mission is to take down the German commander when this is done you meet up again three years later and join his unit in taking down the Germans. The story in which you play as these character’s is great, with you intrigued to see what happens next, during the loading screens for each new mission we are treated to a fast moving synopsis of what’s happened and what’s about to happen, in the loading screen we also get the real life footage of WWII this isn’t just thrown in there for the sake of it, they treat with the respect it deserves and makes you realise the horror they went through for us.

The gameplay is in know doubt the best we have ever played, following on from COD4 they have intensified it even more with different enemies and tactics that will always keep you on your toes. The way that they have managed to do this is the sheer number on enemies they is always someone shooting at you and there is always someone to shoot at. With the option to play co-op up to four players online and two players offline also add’s new experience to the game and challenges for you to face.

They have also made different types of enemies such as the Japanese Kamikaze units who shout Banzai! and run at you with bayonets which can be nerve racking with you hearing the voices but are not quite sure where it’s coming from. Enemis aren’t always confide to the ground with them climbing tree’s and shooting you form above while being shot at from the bottom makes you choose your tactic instead of going gun-hoe and trying to blast your way through. They are also vehicles you can get in on certain levels such as tanks and now planes which gives you the full spectrum of the battles of WWII.

The enemies aren’t always smart though as we played through the game on regular difficulty you can be standing next to an enemy and him not shooting at you, this can spoil the feel of the game there are also incidents where your fellow solider is standing gun to gun with the enemy but not shooting. Overall the gameplay is fantastic if you loved COD4 gameplay you’ll definitely love COD5’s, we think that once again raises the bar for the next Call Of Duty and FPS.

Online is what make’s COD an even better FPS and COD5 is no different, once again they haven’t changed the layout of the menu’s with perks still available and custom classes, you will know what your doing and this makes the game a whole lot sweeter. There is an obvious difference in weapons and maps but they have added new perks to punish your enemy’s. The new perks vary from you playing dead to Monkey which enables you to climb trees. They are in total 13 maps for you to play though ranging from close quarters to long distance fighting. The string of kills perks are also back with you killing 3 enemies without dying giving you recon which enables you to see where enemies are, 5 kills gives your mortar fire, and 7 gets you dogs, which are great when you are the one to unleash them but are annoying if your not.

OVERALL

Call of Duty World At War once again delivers an excellent videogame experience with fantastic gameplay to an engrossing story line, you get the feeling how are they going to improve on this next time around. If you are looking for your next FPS fix or are thinking about getting COD but unsure about it’s WWII gameplay don’t, this game is brilliant and you’ll be sorry you missed out. Granted this game isn’t without it’s problems with some dodgy AI at times but you can look pass that and bask in it’s glory, and with Multiplayer as good as this, the length factor of COD will definitely see you through to the next one in the series.

Ghostbusters Revived???

Ghostbusters and The Chronicles Of Riddick both are now being developed by Atari.

The publisher confirmed it will release “The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena” this spring. It’s a follow-up to Vivendi’s 2005 movie tie-in “Chronicles of Riddick: Escape at Butcher Bay,” which sold decently worldwide and was critically acclaimed as one of the best-ever film-based games.

Execs at Atari wouldn’t comment on “Ghostbusters,” but sources close to the publisher confirmed it is also picking up that game, with plans to publish it early next summer in conjunction with the film’s 25th anniversary. It’s believed Atari has a similar licensing deal with Sony Pictures to produce further “Ghostbusters” games should the first one prove successful.
